The Love of Freedom and Independence

Alexander is growing every day. We most certainly do notice all of the changes that take place, discuss them, laugh at some of them, and keep hoping to describe them in this blog. Various other non-essential chores and life’s things get the best of us, and we do not make written notes of Alexander’s progress on a regular basis. We will keep trying to correct this mistake.

One item that is crystal clear at this point is Alexander’s desire to be free and independent. Take socks, for example. We started putting them on since the weather is getting chillier, and he always tries to take them off. And he succeeds too. It is not unusual to find San’kin sporting just one sock. I am sure he does not like them. Another item of clothing that he is not particular fond of is hats. Ever since he was just a few months old, any attempt to put a light hat on to protect him from the sun, resulted in a revolt. We have very few photos of Alexander wearing a hat. Today, his grandma Luba knit him a really nice looking warm hat for the Fall—he looks awesome in it too—and he immediately started taking it off.

We are starting to notice a similar trend with food. We know he likes corn on the cob, and gave it to him a few times. Not only it is fairly soft and tastes good, he probably likes scratching his gums on it, and gnaw on it. Well, tonight he insisted on holding it himself! Refused to be fed! The day before, the same exact thing happened with cucumbers. We didn’t even know he liked them, and decided to give it a try. He loved it and wanted to hold the cucumber himself. HeĀ ended up munching on the soft side, and yeah, he made a mess, but it was fun to watch!
